St. Leonard's Church

A family, together in faith with God our Father

The piscina

On the South wall nearest to the altar rails is an Early English piscina, a shallow basin used by the clergy for washing the sacred vessels. It is still used and the water drains into the consecrated ground.

Beyond the piscina are the 13th century sedilia providing seating for the clergy, a smaller piscine and an aumbry- a small niche for the sacred elements of the Reserved Sacrament, consecrated bread and wine to be taken to the sick. The sacrament is nowadays reserved in Holy Trinity Church.
